NETGEAR’s Readyshare routers enable users to connect USB drives to them for network sharing. However, some users have said they can’t access Readyshare in File Explorer.

When they input the Readyshare path, a Windows cannot access \READYSHARE error message pops up. This can be a problem, and in today’s guide we’re going to show you how to fix this issue.

How can I fix the Windows cannot access Readyshare error?

1. Check your router’s USB flash drive compatibility

First, note that not all USB storage drives will necessarily work with NETGEAR Readyshare. Check if your USB drive has been tested to work with NETGEAR routers on the NETGEAR Readyshare page.

There you can select routers to see what drives are confirmed to work with them.

If your USB flash drive might not be compatible, try utilizing a different one with the router. Ideally, it’s best to utilize one of the USB sticks listed to work with your NETGEAR router.

2. Adjust IP and DNS settings

Press the Type here to search button on your Windows 10 taskbar.

Enter network in the search box to find View network connections.

Click View network connections to open that applet.

Select the Turn on network discovery radio button.

4. Select the Enable insecure guest logins policy

Press Windows Key + R.

Next, type in the following Run command in the Open box: gpedit.msc

Then click OK to open Group Policy Editor.

Click Computer Configuration and go to Administrative Templates on the left of Group Policy Editor.

Then select the Network and choose Lanman Workstation to open Lanman Workstation policies.

Double-click Enable insecure guest logons.

Select the Enabled radio button.

Press the Apply button to save the new policy setting.

Click OK to close the Enable insecure guest logon policy window.

5. Edit the registry

First, open Run with the Windows + R hotkey for that accessory.

Type in this Registry Editor command and click OK:

regedit

Next, navigate to this registry key path: Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanWorkstation\Parameters

Select the Parameters key.

If you can’t find a AllowInsecureGuestAuth DWORD there, right-click within the right side of the Registry Editor window and select New and choose DWORD. Then enter AllowInsecureGuestAuth as the DWORD title.

Double-click AllowInsecureGuestAuth to open the window in the snapshot directly below.

Then delete the 0 in the Value data box. Enter 1 in that box to replace the deleted value.

Press the OK button to exit the Edit DWORD window.

Once you make these changes, check if Windows still cannot access Readyshare.

6. Make sure SMB 1.0 is enabled

Open Windows 10’s search tool.

Enter the keyword Windows features within the search box. Select Turn Windows features on or off.

Click Turn Windows features on or off within the search results to open the window in the snapshot below.

Double-click the SMB 1.0 checkbox to expand it.

Then click SMB 1.0/CIFS File Sharing Support to select all the SMB 1.0 checkboxes.

Select the OK option.

Thereafter, click the Restart now button.
